Requirement: Dynamic Sub-Sitemap Architecture with URL Limits

Currently, our sitemap is generated as a single flat file. We need to restructure our sitemap system into a Sitemap Index (Master Sitemap) format containing separate Child Sitemaps based on content categories.

In addition, we must enforce a maximum limit of 10,000 URLs per individual child sitemap. If any category exceeds 10,000 links, it should automatically paginate and generate an additional child sitemap (e.g., page-sitemap-1.xml, page-sitemap-2.xml).

1. Sitemap Architecture & Naming Structure

We need a main sitemap.xml file that serves as the Sitemap Index, linking to all individual category sitemaps:

• Main Sitemap Index: sitemap.xml

• Child Sitemaps:

  • page-sitemap.xml (or page-sitemap-1.xml, page-sitemap-2.xml if >10k links)

  • category-sitemap.xml

  • website-list-sitemap.xml

  • blog-sitemap.xml

  • blog-category-sitemap.xml

  • blog-details-sitemap.xml

2. Technical Specifications

1. Sitemap Index File (sitemap.xml):

   • Must use the <sitemapindex> root tag.

   • Contains <sitemap> nodes listing all existing child sitemaps along with their <lastmod> date.

2. 10k Limit & Pagination Rule:

   • Set a strict limit of 10,000 URLs per XML file.

   • If a category (e.g., blog-details) contains 15,000 URLs, it must generate:

     • blog-details-sitemap-1.xml (URLs 1 to 10,000)

     • blog-details-sitemap-2.xml (URLs 10,001 to 15,000)

   • If a category has fewer than 10,000 URLs, it should keep the standard name without a page number (e.g., category-sitemap.xml).

3. Child Sitemap Format:
